Los Barriles is located approximately 120 km south of La Paz and 60 km north of San Jose del Cabo, in front of the Gulf of Mexico. It’s within a coastline of small towns and beaches that together form a great tourist attraction: Buena Vista, Los Frailes, Cabo Pulmo and Punta Pescadero, among other are the East Cape places that little by little take national and international recognition.

Undoubtedly, water activities are the main attraction of Los Barriles. Its crystal clear waters relatively quiet with an immense marine richness make beginners and experts enjoy splendid vacations. The Cabo Pulmo National Park offers the opportunity to practice scuba diving and snorkeling with an amazing view: deep in these waters is the only hard coral reef of the mexican pacific with an estimated age of 25,000 years, in addition to having over 350 different species such as the whale shark and the giant manta.
Activities in Los Barriles
The south part of the Gulf of California, a place known as East Cape, contains Los Barriles and an endless list of beaches and virgin lands. In those waters scuba diving and snorkeling are great tourist attractions since in the deep ocean lives an unimaginable marine world that takes your breath way. Brilliant and multicolor fishes, subaquatic species you’ve never seen, underwater caves and sunken ships: all this in the underwater world of Los Barriles.
An activity that amuses and challenges the intrepid is the sport fishing; the main species captured are Dorado, roosterfish, swordfish and sailfish, but mainly marlin since Los Cabos is known as the Marlin’s World Capital. All year long sport fishing tournaments take place, although the most famous ones are celebrated in May and October. There are more than 200 boats available to reach the sea and practice scuba diving, fishing or sailing.
The isolated beaches surrounding Los Barriles are perfect place to practice water sports. In these waters you can easily find people enjoying a great range of activities like kayaking, surfing and parasailing, without mentioning the possibilities of taking a boat ride, renting jet skis, bananas or just swimming. The entire waters and beaches of the East Cape, in the low part of the Gulf of California, are set to practice any water sport: El Sargento, La Ventana, Punta Arena, Ensenada de los Muertos, El Cardonal, Punta Pescadero, Los Barriles, Buena Vista, Punta Colorada and Cabo Pulmo.
